The reason this site is called all things Guggy is because of the multiple activities he undertakes. He has earned his living as recording engineer since 1985. He was based in Los Angeles, California for the first decade of his career, and he acquired many Gold and Platinum album credits during that time. He has also done sessions in NYC, Nashville, Omaha, Las Vegas, and Detroit. In 2001 he opened C-Town Sound in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
During his decade in Los Angeles he picked up the backpacking habit. He has camped in the backcountry of many of America’s most spectacular parks including: Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Zion, Capitol Reef, Grand Staircase Escalante, and Bears Ears National Monument. His new project “All the Beauty of the Universe” is a collection of songs inspired by his travel adventures.
Guggy started writing songs over 40 years ago. You can find him performing his original music several nights a week at singer/songwriter events in Cleveland. Over the last few years he has shifted his focus towards concerts and has began performing his music at events around the country. He also co-wrote music for television with guitarist/producer/writer Dave Baker. Their work appeared on local television and radio and included both theme songs and jingles. He also had the honor of working with and writing songs with the legendary Jose Feliciano.
In 2017 Guggy’s relationship to nature began an evolution. Politicians in Utah began efforts to reduce the areas and challenge the National Monument designations of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments. Trying to live up to his mantra of “Always leave your campsite neater than you found it.” Guggy joined the effort to protect these spectacular lands. Step one was to create a documentary named “Common Ground in America”. The documentary premiered in Escalante, Utah in late February of 2020. Not long after the world shut down because of Covid-19. Several new skills were added during the making of the documentary. Guggy was responsible for the script, research, sound, lighting, videography, photography, and editing. Working as an Angry Man with an iPhone, it wasn’t until his first film festival submission that he realized he had directed the project.
It was also at this time that Guggy began connecting his music to his charitable efforts and his environmental activism. He and several of his friends perform shows under the banner Musicians Saving our Home Planet in support of many environmental organizations. He also has a Musicians Saving our Home Planet podcast that interviews frontline environmental activists.
This Summer Guggy is heading out on the Scenic Route to Cain Park Tour. Follow along as he performs in some of America’s most iconic landscapes, and catch a show if you have the opportunity!
